Resco has released an update to its popular Resco Explorer file manager for touchscreen-enabled Windows Mobile devices. Version 8.10 of the software adds a major new feature, namely WebDAV support.

WebDAV (Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning) is a protocol similar to FTP, enabling the transfer and management of files on a remote server.

The difference is that WebDAV is based on HTTP instead of FTP.

One of its most important features is the ability of locking the data on the server in order to prevent accidental overwriting.

The interface Resco Explorer uses for WebDAV is similar to the one for FTP, so users can now maintain a WebDAV server the same way they were accustomed with FTP.

Another improvement brought by the new version makes it faster to make changes to documents by enabling the automated upload of files to FTP.

This means that every time the user opens a document on the server and modifies it, Resco Explorer automatically re-uploads the file to the FTP.

The same thing applies to WebDAV and when editing a document inside a ZIP archive - when the changes are saved the archive is automatically re-packed.

“The new WebDAV protocol allows the users to comfortably work with the files or even use automatic features”, stated Marcel Šaffa, Director of Resco Applications division.

“The updated Resco Explorer 8.10 made once again a big step closer to the customer with this new data management tool.“

In addition to the file manager and FTP/WebDAV explorer, Resco Explorer includes many other powerful functions such as Today plugin, task manager, registry editor, network browser, ZIP compressor, file encryptor and more.

The latest release of Resco Explorer 2010 can be acquired for a price of $29.95 and is compatible with touchscreen-enabled devices running Windows Mobile 2003 or later.

A 7-day trial version of the software can be downloaded here.
