The White House's decision to cancel tours due to the sequestration has caused an uproar among Republican lawmakers, who believe the measure is unnecessary.

According to Talk Radio News, White House reps have announced that visits will stop on March 9, 2013, as budget cuts have been made and keeping on staff would be redundant.

Although tours are self-guided, the institution kept on Secret Service officers to restrict access to certain areas of the facility.

Senator Deb Fischer argues on Twitter that the visits were important for students' education. However, a more aggressive tweet comes from Senator John Thune, who takes a direct stab at the president, citing his lavish spending.

“Obama can enjoy his golf vacation, but your family’s vacation is subject to sequester as he shuts WH off from public tours,” he writes.
