Airbnb doesn't seem like something that could ever work in practice, renting rooms or just couches from people wanting to make an extra buck or maybe help out a fellow traveler isn't something you'd think would scale.

Certainly, many potential investors didn't think so while the startup was trying to get off the ground. But scale it did and now, you can rent an entire country from Airbnb.

"If you've been a member of our community for awhile, you've probably know you can rent anything from a couch for a night, a treehouse for week, or a boat for a month. Well, as of today, you can now rent anything from a couch to a country on Airbnb!," Airbnb wrote.

"We are excited to expand the breadth of spaces available for rental on Airbnb by partnering with Rent a Village by Xnet, a Liechtenstein-based event production and marketing company, to bring their unique portfolio of event and conference settings to Airbnb," it announced.

You can now rent the Principality of Liechtenstein, 6 Austrian villages, 3 German towns, and 1 Swiss ski-resort village from Airbnb. Of course, it's not exactly the same as renting a room for the night in New York City.

For one, there's the price issue, you need to pony up $70,000 per day for Liechtenstein. A village or town is somewhat cheaper, but the price doesn't drop below the $50,000 mark. On the other hand, you can arrange to be received by the mayor, get the town key and even have a marching band.

But that's just the beginning, by renting a village or a country, you get to access most of the accommodations there for the period, you can rename streets and pretty much do whatever your imagination will let you.

Airbnb has partnered with Rent a Village by Xnet, an event production and marketing company, which takes care of all the details, so you can organize whatever you want, as long as you have the money for it.
