Apple has done nothing to break compatibility with the hack tools

The famous iPhone Dev Team has updated its blog with a notice saying that, “Snow Leopard [...] poses no new wrinkles for the redsn0w jailbreak or ultrsn0w unlock.” Softpedia doesn’t condone jailbreaking.

Basically, what the Team is saying is that redsn0w can now be used by iPhone or iPod touch users to jailbreak. “To summarize the status of our tools [...] You can use redsn0w to jailbreak any iPhone or iPod Touch using OS X, Windows, or Linux,” the iPhone Dev Team says.

“For both 3.0 and 3.0.1 firmwares, you should point redsn0w at the 3.0 IPSW. If you see it hang at ‘waiting for reboot,’ just unplug and replug that USB cable,” the team explains.

iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS users can use ultrasn0w to unlock their device. BootNeuter can be used by those who wish to unlock an iPhone 2G device.

“Both ultrasns0w and BootNeuter are available via Cydia,” the Dev Team also confirms. “You can use PwnageTool for Mac to create custom IPSWs with pre-installed packages,” the post reads. The hackers also point readers to detailed guides on how to run these tools. “For specific help on any problems, feel free to use our comment system,” the Team points out. “We’re glad to see Apple joining in on the ‘snow’ theme. If only Apple had called their new OS ‘Sn0w Leopard!’” the iPhone Dev Team jokes.

Softpedia doesn't condone jailbreaking / unlocking the iPhone / iPod touch or any other device. This article has a purely informational purpose and doesn't, in any way, suggest that you should hack your Apple device. Using hacks may render your device unusable, or may reduce the quality of your experience using the respective device. If you choose to download and install jailbreak tools, you will do so at your own risk. Unlocking / jailbreaking your iPhone / iPod touch may violate your warranty or the EULA with Apple and / or your cellular service provider.
