Here’s one story to motivate you to finally lose those extra few pounds you’ve been carrying around or perhaps packed on this holiday season: Redditor Lucas is sharing his weight loss story with the world after dropping 130 pounds (58.9 kg) and surprising his parents over Christmas with his accomplishment.

Lucas, as you can see in the video below, weighed 300 pounds (136 kg) before he decided to turn his life around by changing his diet and including regular exercise in his daily activities.

He’d known all along such a change in lifestyle was needed but he never got around to actually making it. Lucas used as incentive the fact that his parents had no idea of what he was doing, and that he was going to surprise them over Christmas.

He had a friend come along for the ride to their place to film their reaction to his weight loss, and it is included in the video below. It was shot in Ontario, Canada, Yahoo! reports.

He then shared the video on Reddit and posted updates to the story, including on how he managed to pull this off and his new diet and workout routine. His story has gone viral since, with many rushing to congratulate Lucas both for his accomplishment and for sharing it with the world, and thus inspiring others to want to change their lives for the better by getting healthy.

Right now, Lucas is on a 1,350 calorie diet, which includes tuna salad, plenty of veggies, beans and rice, chicken with salsa, and turkey beef sandwiches. Whenever the weather is warm enough, he walks 5 miles to work every day, a habit he picked up after he lost about 100 pounds (45.3 kg). It’s cheaper than the gym and perhaps less boring too.

Lucas says he usually visits his parents twice a year, once on Christmas and once over the summer. Last summer, he came up with an excuse not to go see them, so that he could surprise them when he had attained his weight loss goal.

“I definitely recommend the ‘don't tell anybody’ method. It takes away a lot of the pressure and lets you focus on your weight loss without worrying about letting people down,” he says.
