UK wireless carrier O2 has decided to add a new device to its offering, namely the Red flavor of the HTC Desire 601, which will be an exclusive to the operator.

The mobile phone will be released in the country through O2 retail stores starting with today, and it is also set to become available through the carrier’s online portal, a recent article on pocket-lint unveils.

Made official a few months ago, HTC Desire 601 comes to the market as a mid-range smartphone, though still capable of offering appealing capabilities to its users.

The device will land at O2 with support for 4G connectivity, and with a 2100mAh battery that can deliver up to 12.8 hours of talk time on 3G.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the new handset comes with a 4.5-inch touchscreen display that can deliver a 960 x 540 pixels resolution.

Moreover, the smartphone is powered by a 1.4GHz dual-core Snapdragon 400 processor, paired with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory. A microSD memory card slot will enable users to add up to 64GB of additional storage space to the mix.

On the back, Desire 601 sports a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash and support for full HD video recording. It also has a VGA camera on the front, great for making video calls.

The specs list of this mobile phone also includes Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n connectivity, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hotspot, DLNA, and built-in GPS receiver.

HTC launched the Desire 601 with Google’s Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system loaded on top, paired with HTC’s own Sense interface.

There is also a series of exclusive HTC features that this device lands on the market with, such as HTC Zoe camera, HTC BlinkFeed, and HTC BoomSound.

The smartphone hasn’t been listed on O2 UK’s website as of now, and we still don’t know what price tag it will sport. However, considering its specs, we don’t expect it to be expensive.
