A few weeks ago, Red Faction III was announced and everybody got pretty excited that the war on Mars will return, bigger, better and multi-platform. Unfortunately, except the fact that it was officially announced, we didn't know much else - we only hoped that it would be more like the first game in the series and not anywhere related to the second. Well, things are about to change right now, since THQ has released some more information regarding their upcoming title.

First of all, Red Faction III will be actually called Red Faction: Guerrilla, and that sounds exciting already. It will come as a third person shooter set 50 years after the original events in the first Red Faction - and that is great, no reference to the number two in the series has been made. The game promises to bring a real open-world Mars adventure with one of the most destructible environment you have ever seen.

"Red Faction is one THQ's most successful and critically acclaimed original franchises to date, with a huge global base of loyal fans waiting to join the new revolution," said Brad Carraway, director of global brand management, THQ. "With the game's unique pairing of true physics-based destruction, fast-paced guerrilla warfare style combat, and a massive world to explore - Red Faction: Guerrilla will redefine the limits of open-world gaming."

In the game, you will become an insurgent fighter in a newly Red Faction movement set against the oppressive Earth Defense Force. You will travel from the desolate mining outpost of Parker to the gleaming EDF capital city of Eos, wreaking havoc along the way and destroying everything in sight, utilizing improvised weapons, explosives and re-purposed mining equipment and vehicles. The destruction of the environment will be one of the most important part in Red Faction: Guerrilla, since several multiplayer modes are said to be based on this feature.

The game will have a multi-platform release on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles, as well as PC systems, sometime during THQ's fiscal year 2009.
