When he’s not making (potentially) Oscar-winning movies, James Franco also likes to have some fun with tongue-in-cheek irreverent comedies like “Your Highness.” A red band trailer for it has just been released.

The film stars, aside from Franco, Danny McBride, Natalie Portman and Zooey Deschanel, who all find themselves in a story worthy of “Lord of the Rings” or at least “Robin Hood” – with a hefty side dish of foul language.

As ScreenCrave points out, the trailer promises a gorgeous blend of funny jokes, good acting and great graphics, which means “Your Highness” stands great chances of becoming a hit when it arrives in theaters next year.

“Thadeous (McBride) has spent his life watching his perfect older brother Fabious (Franco) embark upon valiant journeys and win the hearts of his people,” SC writes, citing from the official synopsis of the film.

“Tired of being passed over for adventure, adoration and the throne, he’s settled for a life of wizard’s weed, hard booze and easy maidens,” it is further being said.

“But when Fabious’ bride-to-be, Belladonna (Deschanel), gets kidnapped by the evil wizard Leezar (Justin Theroux), the king gives his deadbeat son an ultimatum: Man up and help rescue her or get cut off,” SC writes.

It is then that their adventure begins and they set out to rescue the princess. On their way, they also team up with a very unlikely ally, Isabel (Portman), “elusive warrior with a dangerous agenda of her own.”

The three will then have to face unspeakable challenges, which include battling lots of mythological creatures (like fire-spitting dragons) and magic, until they reach the place where the princess is kept and, of course, save her.

One downside of the hilarious trailer is that it’s over 3 minutes long, which could mean that the best the movie has to offer has already been showed, as the aforementioned e-zine puts it.

“This is an extremely long trailer clocking in at 3 and a half minutes. We hope they didn’t reveal all of the good stuff with it. […] If there’s more where that came from this should be pretty hilarious,” SC writes.

“Your Highness” is out in theaters in the US on April 8, 2011. Here is the red band trailer below but *be advised that it contains profanity and images that might offend. Age verification required.
