And other details on Uprising

In about one day, the players who have been enjoying Red Alert 3 on the PC will have the chance to download and play Uprising, the PC-only digitally distributed mini expansion that Electronic Arts has created.

The new content is set to be made up of four different campaigns, one for each side of the original game and another one focusing on how Yuriko Omega got her rather special powers. The situation depicted in the game is that of Allied victory over the Soviets and the Japanese that leads to riots and revolts. The main plot elements are set to be as outlandish as those in all Red Alert games, witt a mysterious company ready to unleash a new menace on the world.

The most interesting addition to Red Alert 3 coming in Uprising may be the Commander's Challenge mode. Initially, this was described as something similar to the General's Challenge from another game in the Command and Conquer series, but it seems that the 50 potential challenges offered in Uprising will be something entirely different.

Players will have to take into account what units and resources they have at their disposal and will have to plot a course through the challenges that allow them to get access to new units and better special powers. The games in the Commander's Challenge are set to be short and Electronic Arts will offer players par times so that they can compare their performance to that of the developers. Even if the stages are rather short, the multitude of challenges makes the mode playable for some 30 hours by experienced players.

Also, it seems that Electronic Arts has future plans for the Red Alert franchise, but it might be some time until players see a new game in the series. Matt Ott, who is an assistant producer on Command & Conquer, says that players have waited seven years between Red Alert 2 and 3, so let's hope for a Red Alert 4 sometime in 2013. Oh, he adds that “We have no plans to release Red Alert 3 DLC for console at this time.” Tough luck, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 gamers.
