Could be called Uprising

Electronic Arts has declined to confirm various rumors that the studio it has in Los Angeles is currently working on an expansion for this year's real time strategy title Red Alert 3. French site Jeuxvideo has been reporting that the expansion is called Uprising and that it would be launched in 2009. Meanwhile, Eurogamer has been told by Electronic Arts that “We will have more information in the New Year,” so we might see an official unveiling from the company sometime in early 2009.

Red Alert 3, the most recent installment in a game universe that split from the Command & Conquer series, was released for the PC in late October. The Xbox 360 version of the game arrived a bit later, in November, and Electronic Arts is working at the moment on a port for the PlayStation 3 gaming console from Sony. No clear release date has been detailed for that version.

Considering that the game has only been out for about two months, it's probably pretty early for the publisher to unveil an expansion but Jeuxvideo must be on to something, as most of the games released by Electronic Arts using the Command & Conquer name have received an expansion, with Red Alert 2 getting Yuri's Revenge and Command & Conquer 3 getting Kane's Wrath. Uprising might deal with the aftermath of World War III and will allow the fans of the game universe to see which of the three endings is considered as being canonical.

Red Alert 3 was fun to play and the single player offered some interesting moments, yet the game is very micro management heavy, with almost each unit having an alternate way of firing. Because of this, you often get the feeling that the game wants you to pay too much attention to way too many things at once. Still, the production values and the multiplayer make the game an interesting addition to the Red Alert series.
