SuperMegaUltraGroovy and Toastycode are happy to introduce their new recording application designed exclusively for use in Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. The app's quick-capture workflow records "tapes" that can be started or stopped at any time with a single mouse click or keystroke.

"TapeDeck is a powerful and fun new audio recorder for Mac OS X Leopard. It's just like your old analog tape recorder, only better. A lot better," the developer (SuperMegaUltraGroovy) notes. "Every recording is automatically saved and organized in the searchable 'tape box'. There's no need to 'tape over' anything, because a new recording is always just a click away," the company confirms. The app does a great job at recording directly to standard MP4-AAC files at one of three configurable compression settings, the developer reveals, while users can add titles and "liner notes" to their tapes while the program allows full-text searches on this criteria. Recordings are then accessible through Spotlight, Quick Look, and iTunes, the same guys note.

Leopard's Finder and Cover Flow can also be used to browse recordings saved in TapeDeck. "TapeDeck also adds many welcome improvements to traditional tape recorders, such as a never-ending supply of tapes to record on, far better audio quality, lots of space to write notes, and full compatibility with iTunes and the iPod," the developer mentions. "Live level meters, rotating cassette spindles, live search, and UI sound effects make TapeDeck truly fun to use," SuperMegaUltraGroovy added.

"Late last year we agreed this application needed to be written - a very simple, useful audio recorder that leverages Core Animation for the Zing! and Pop! you expect from Leopard apps today," the guys at SuperMegaUltraGroovy proudly state.

TapeDeck requires a Macintosh with Mac OS X version 10.5 or later. The new audio recorder for Mac OS X Leopard is available under the form of a demo right here (1.46 MB). The full version of TapeDeck costs $25 to buy.
