FIFA Street is being rebooted by EA Sports in 2012 and the developers at the EA Canada studio have recognized the mistakes made by previous titles in the series and are committed to creating a game experience that avoids them all.

Sid Mistra, who is a producer working on the series, told Gamasutra as part of a bigger interview, that, “FIFA Street 1 and 2 actually did quite well. They were very popular in terms of sales, but the thing is, they were not that popular in terms of their overall quality. FIFA Street 3 in particular left a bad taste in people’s mouths. The art style wasn’t really well received, and I think that’s partly an indication of where the overall game quality was.”

He added, “Those teams took on the additional challenge of using rendering engines from other games and not the gameplay engine from FIFA – basically, they were trying to build a street football game without a football engine underneath it.”

Mistra says that the use of the full FIFA 12 engine, complete with the Player Impact Engine and the improvements made to player movement and looks, is one of the crucial choices for the series and will enable the team to create a match experience that is both close to the real world and enjoyable.

He also believes that one of the main challenges for the rebooted FIFA Street is to make sure that it can capture both the physical aspects of the game played on the streets of London and the stylish approach that those based in Rio favor.

FIFA Street will include 120 well known players from the biggest football leagues in the world and will simulate 35 real world locations.

FIFA Street is at the moment slated for launch on the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 during March.
