A couple from Draper, Utah have been arrested for trying to scam a supermarket in search for a settlement.

Carol Lee Leazer-Hardman, 39, and Michael Condor, 35 placed razor blades in donuts bought at Smith’s Food and Drug Store, Deseret News writes.

According to International Business Times, they not only ate the donuts, but allowed a co-worker a bite. The woman did not incur injuries to her mouth or stomach, as she didn't swallow the piece of donut, feeling the razor blade and spitting it out.

They alerted the police on Wednesday, March 13, mentioning the store they bought the goods at. The complaint prompted an investigation, and the supermarket was forced to pull the donuts from their shelves.

However, Smith’s is not the producer of the baked goods, it is only a reseller. Even so, they removed the donuts in a bid to avoid similar incidents.

Draper Police Sgt. Chad Carpenter describes that, as they began questioning the duo, they noticed that "things weren't adding up."

Both the man and the woman worked at a Dollar Store in very close proximity to the Smith's store and were experiencing financial troubles, being in debt. An examination showed that they had ingested "several razor blades."

"During the course of the investigation we were able to determine that they intentionally inserted these broken razor blades into donuts that they had purchased at Smith's and then swallowed the razor blades with the donuts," a spokesman for the police states.

"We interviewed the male today and he did admit ... that this was just a scheme thought up by them. [...] They wanted to get a settlement of some sort," Carpenter adds.

Leazer-Hardman and Condor are now facing criminal charges for aggravated assault, as their actions could have hurt their colleague, and they have also been charged with filing a false police report.
