Stereo sound, foam leatherette and sound isolation come together

Yet another PC accessory featuring a game-inspired theme has appeared, but Razer made sure its creation didn't actually need the hype of a game in order to sell.

What we mean by that is that, rather than adding the name of the game to a lackluster device (hoping the game hype would reel in customers), Razer made sure its Battlefield 3 BlackShark was good-looking, high-performing and comfortable before it strapped the game brand to it.

At a glance, one can see the black-silver-orange color theme, which we feel would have worked better if the orange had been a bit closer to gold/yellow. Then again, orange is the ultimate angst ward regardless.

For high-quality sound, Razer chose to employ 40mm neodymium magnet stereo drivers and enhanced bass.

The frequency response is of 20Hz – 20KHz, the impedance 29 Ohms and the sensitivity (at 1KHz) is of 105dB ± 3 dB.

As for sound clarity, the headphones' ear cups should be able to cancel out noise well enough.

“The Razer BlackShark is a PC gaming headset with crisp audio and booming bass that is built for a highly intense shooter like Battlefield 3,” said Robert ‘RazerGuy’ Krakoff, president of Razer USA.

“It lets you hear the gunfire, the explosions and the thunderous roar of the jets, as if you were in the heat of the battle. Designed based on headsets sported by real attack helicopter pilots, no serious soldiers on the frontlines of Battlefield 3 should be without their Razer BlackShark.”

Razer's Battlefied 3 BlackShark headphones come with a detachable microphone and memory foam leatherette ear cushions.

Speaking of which, the microphone has its own specs: a frequency response of 50Hz – 16KHz, a signal-to-noise ratio of 50dB and a sensitivity (at 1KHz) of -37 dB +/- 4dB.

Finally, the headset features a 1.3m / 4.3ft rubber sheathed cable and a 3.5mm gold-plated audio + mic combined connector (the package will include a 1m / 3.3ft audio/mic splitter adapter).

All in all, the product should be able to function on just 50 mW of energy. Sales will commence in July (2012), for $129.99 / EU €129.99.
