A website hosting 3D designs is where you need to go

Museums have lots of awesome things on display, from relatively recent pieces of art to truly ancient artifacts from civilizations long lost.

However, people can't just up and cross the country in order to visit some museum or other on their spare time.

And yet they may still want to behold the objects there, maybe even hold them and own them.

To offer everyone a chance to see exhibits up close, or parts of them, Threeding has signed contracts with several museums to 3D scan and sell 3D printable copies of their pieces.

Called Threeding, the already considerable online collection of 3D designs (based in Bulgaria for those interested) will start to add more and more CAD models of ancient artifacts. The archeological museum of the Black Sea City of Varna is an example of a gallery that entered this partnership.

Currently, there are CAD files of 20 objects from the museum of Varna, but over 100 should be added this week. Meanwhile, the Historical Museum of Pernik has contributed 23 objects as well.

All these were added on top of the files already existing on Threeding, like the 40-50 antiques provided by private collectors.

The full number of downloadable models should reach 1,000 by the end of February, if Threeding has its way. You'll have to be willing to spend a couple dozen dollars or euro for every download though.
