There is a new agreement between the two, involving memory technology

It wasn't too many years ago that Rambus made a living off suing other tech companies over patent infringement. The USPTO has been cracking down on trolls though, even if not much, so Rambus is changing tunes.

Rambus continues to come up with patents (basically ideas for technologies) without actually producing anything itself. Still, at least it is more active on the tech stage.

Most recently, it entered an agreement with Freescale Semiconductor, giving the latter access to the former's patents for memory controllers and serial links, as well as a stake in the development of Rambus' resistive memory technology for embedded applications (eRRAM). Meanwhile, Rambus gets cash. How much, I'm not sure.

The agreement will lead to new integrated circuits, controller chips and embedded memory products (like the one used in car tech systems, point-of-sale, industrial automation, etc.).
