Though solid state drives and hard disk drives are, essentially, based on different storage technologies, some companies still try to combine the best of both worlds, and Raidon seems to be ready to see just how well its own inventions sell, having apparently completed the HyBrid RunneR iH1010 and iH2420.

The HyBrid RunneR iH1010 and iH2420 are a sort of drive enclosures that can house not just one, but two storage solutions at once, one solid state drive and one hard drive to be exact.

As long as said drives come equipped with a SATA interface, Raidon claims that its inventions can leverage both the high capacity of the HDD as well as the fast transfer speeds of the SSD.

The iH1010 is the larger one of the two and fits inside a 5.25-inch bay, and this allows it to accommodate a 2.5-inch SSD and a 3.5-inch HDD.

Its sibling, the iH2420, can only fit 2.5-inch drives inside of it but, in return, can be placed inside 3.5-inch bays.

Basically, the newcomers are meant for such tasks as instant backup or backup scheduling, making the best of the SSD's low access time and leaving the major storage concerns to the plater-based solution.

“It utilizes the performance of SDD instead of HDD to provide an optimum data access rate, and also obtaining the capacity of HDD for instant backup or backup scheduling to secure the valuable data from the possibilities of SSD failures,” the official press release states.

“Furthermore, the remaining capacity of HDD from the SSD backup sector will also be partitioned into an individual volume to provide an additional storage space,” the release adds.

The iH2420 has already started to ship, but the iH1010 will only become available during the third quarter of 2010. Unfortunately, prices have not been mentioned.
