It appears that the realms of network-attached storage has just gotten a new citizen, only this time it is not a new multi-bay device, but more of an enclosure designed in such a way as to be able to connect to a network or PC, or other electronics even, through multiple means.

The market has already seen the arrival of a fair number of storage solutions, from new HDDs and SSDs to hybrid drives and products meant to expand their functionality.

The newest device that RaidSonic came up with is of the third type, namely a sort of enclosure equipped with several more or less unusual features.

Dubbed IB-NAS5310 NAS and part of the Icy Box collection, is has enough room on the inside to house one 3.5-inch HDD.

This is not the truly unusual fact about it, however, as what truly makes it arguably one-of-a-kind, or at least unusual, is its real-time operating system (RTOS).

Said RTOS can boost speeds for storage and/or streaming by prioritizing important tasks, a boost that can supposedly push speeds to double those normally achievable.

There are several other assets as well, such as the Oxford OXE 810SE chip, which has a frequency of 367 MHz, and the Gigabit Ethernet port.

What's more, the Icy Box IB-NAS5310 NAS enclosure can stream to DLNA-compatible devices and has an USB 2.0 port.

In other words, it should be able to stream to such devices as PS3 and Xbox 360, in addition to being able to communicate with personal computers of course.

Not only that, but even USB 3.0 connectivity is available, and RaidSonic made sure to implement a fanless design, so that cooling is done as efficiently as possible, meaning without needing any power at all.

The product has an enclosure made of aluminum and the press release puts its price at 89 Euro.
