MSI is about to launch a new version of the Radeon HD 5770 using a new, cooler design

MSI has redesigned the original Radeon HD 5770 graphics card into a new version, which, although it has the same product number as the initial model (that it will probably replace altogether) sports a design that looks simpler and easy to manufacture, as well as a new, custom cooler to keep the Core temperatures under control.

The 'old' card used the AMD reference design PCB and cooler. The new design employs the round cooler often used by AMD graphics card prototypes. The cooler is composed of two copper heatpipes, which hold a densely packed aluminum fin array within their circular frame.

The fin array projects radially from the center of the heatsink and, on top of it, nests an 80 mm fan, which dissipates heat by supplying the fins with a strong and sustained airflow. Although the PCB seems to have remained identical to the one used by the initial Radeon HD 5770 Graphics Card model, the new design, being more easy to make, might actually lead to price cuts for this video card.

The performance capabilities of the adapter haven't suffered any changes. The card retains its 40nm juniper GPU with 800 Stream processors and its 1GB of GDDR5 memory still operates at the charming 128-bit memory interface. The card supports DirectX 11 graphics and CrossFireX, and is outfitted with dual DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort outputs. By means of such connections, suitable displays will be able to easily demonstrate the high performance of which this video adapter is capable, backed by clock speeds of 850 MHz for the GPU and of 4800 MHz for the memory.

Although the custom cooler MSI Radeon HD 5770 1GB graphics controller has not yet been made available for purchase, it will supposedly have a price of about 130 Euro.
