A rabbi in New Haven has found large piles of cash after buying a desk off Craigslist. He paid under $200 (€150) for it and he came across $98,000 (€73,000) stuck behind its drawers.

Rabbi Noah Muroff and his wife tried to get the desk into his office but it was too large. They had to take the entire thing apart and dismantling it revealed the money.

"The desk did not fit into this office by fraction of an inch," Muroff says.

The money was hidden behind drawers attached to the file cabinets, WTNH reported.

"Behind the drawers there is this plastic bag, like a shopping. In the bag, I could already see through the bag, it looks like a one hundred dollar bill.

"We open it up and it's full of cash. And we counted up and there's $98,000 (€73,000) cash sitting in the bag," he recalls.

The couple didn't think twice about returning the money. They called the original owner of the desk right after making the find.

"Right away my wife and I sort of looked at each other and said we can't keep this money," Muroff describes.

"I saw there was a bag back there and through the bag I saw one $100 (€75) bill and I', like, Oh my gosh there's money in there'. And i picked it up and this is pretty heavy. And I brought it over to the table and sort of counted it up and was like 'oh my gosh,'" he told the former owner.

She was as surprised as they were about the cash, but remembered that it was her inheritance money. She had stuck it there for safe keeping and forgot about it. They returned all the money to the grateful owner.
