Big Blue Bubble, one of Canada’s leading video game developers, recently announced a new title in the Fighting Fantasy series called Creature of Havoc for iPhone and iPad.

The Fighting Fantasy book series was started in 1982 by authors Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone, who created a revolutionary new idea for the fantasy genre.

Basically, the reader became the hero of his own fantasy adventure in a story that was part book, part game. After each paragraph a decision had to be made, as the reader/player was presented with various choices, such as: which way to turn, whether to fight or flee, which mysterious character to approach, and what risks to take.

After the decision was made, the reader was sent to a certain page to discover the consequences of their choice. To date, the series has seen more than 70 titles published and more than 14 million copies sold worldwide.

Fighting Fantasy: Creature of Havoc is the fourth title of the series, after The Warlock of Firetop Mountain, Deathtrap Dungeon have already seen their iPhone launch a while ago. The developer also announced a coming soon title, called City of Thieves.

The key features of the game include: Player Achievements; Universal app iPad support; Scrolling image gallery of unlocked in-game art; Tap the on screen buttons to flip pages; Shake to roll the 3D dice using the accelerometer (or tap through with ease); Inventory items selectable via touch-screen; Game-save feature allows you to retrace your steps; Includes both original illustrations by Ian McCaig and digitally re-mastered versions; Integrated iPod music library access.

The Fighting Fantasy: Creature of Havoc gamebook is available from AppStore and can be downloaded for $2.99 USD.

It has been rated 9+ for Infrequent/Mild Cartoon or Fantasy Violence and requires iPhone or iPad devices running iPhone OS 3.0 or later, as well as 18.5 MB storage space.
