Finnish game studio Rovio Entertainment has officially released its all-new RPG game, Angry Birds Epic, internationally. The free title features turn-based battles between the heroic flock of birds we’ve all come to know and love and the green pigs we just can’t hate for some reason.

Just when you thought Rovio milked it for all it’s got, the Angry Birds franchise has spawned yet another installment, this time featuring genuine role-playing gameplay with strategy elements.

“Get ready for a bird-tastic FREE RPG adventure filled with ‘weapons’ (whatever they could get ahold of), magic, bad guys and silly hats! Lead your feathery team into battle now – it’s going to be EPIC!” says the developer.

Players will engage in turn-based battles between the iconic avian heroes and the green malefic swine, explore a fantasy Piggy Island that has tribal villages, mountains, tropical beaches, and caves, and level up their characters, armor, weapons, and potions.

Gamers will further be able to craft weapons out of things they collect, and Rovio says to expect some “offbeat humor and tons of quirky characters dressed in awesomely silly costumes.”

The studio asks interested parties to note that iPod Touch 4th generation devices are currently not supported by Angry Birds Epic, despite requiring only iOS 6.0 to play.

Supported hardware thus includes: iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPad second generation, iPad third generation, iPad fourth generation, iPad Air, iPad mini, iPad mini with Retina display, and iPod touch fifth generation.

Supported languages are English, French, German, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, and Traditional Chinese. The app is universal, meaning it displays natively on all devices, including iPad.

Rovio is one of the few developers that go to great lengths to outline some facts about in-app purchases. Specifically aimed at parents, the notes say that Angry Birds Epic may include:

"- Direct links to social networking websites that are intended for an audience over the age of 13. - Direct links to the internet that can take players away from the game with the potential to browse any web page. - Advertising of Rovio products and also products from select partners. - The option to make in-app purchases. The bill payer should always be consulted beforehand."

Download Angry Birds Epic for your iOS 6 device and enjoy Rovio’s new RPG now. The game is officially available worldwide, so the supplied link should take you to your country’s App Store where you can download the game.
