The company should announce the release of the service along with its app store

More news reports for BlackBerry users out there are coming down the pipe, unveiling the fact that Research in Motion is set to make yet another announcement at CTIA next week, namely that it plans to launch a full-episode television service for its users. We already reported that the company intended to announce the release of its BlackBerry App World on April 1st, and now it seems that there are more goodies heading towards its customers.

The new service that RIM is expected to release into the wild will come with an unlimited monthly subscription service for a fee, while also having licensed content from multiple broadcast and cable networks. In addition, reports NewTeeVee, users will have the content of a program downloaded in the background over Wi-Fi as soon as they order it.

One thing that is rather annoying is that the owners of a BlackBerry Storm are reported to not be able to benefit from this service, given the fact that it is transmitted via Wi-Fi, and the touchscreen RIM device does not include this feature. Yet, the company is reported to have chosen to use Wi-Fi networks for the transmission of the programs due to the fact that it would avoid this way “clogging 3G networks.” At the same time, “once 3G networks finally get up to speed,” says the news site, the option to upgrade will also be available.

There is no information regarding the carrier's involvement in the matter, and details on the possible launch date of price fees for the service also lack at the moment. Hopefully, more will be learned at CTIA in Las Vegas next week, in the event that RIM will indeed announce the service. A spokesperson for Research in Motion, reports NewTeeVee, stated that the company “doesn't comment on unannounced products or applications.”
