Expanding RIM's presence on the Chinese market

Canadian mobile phone maker Research in Motion announced on Monday the signing of a distribution agreement with Digital China Holdings Limited. Under the terms of the agreement, the handset vendor's BlackBerry smartphones will be delivered to the Chinese market via Digital China, the two companies mentioned.

At the same time, the duo also stated that, through the new business initiative, Research In Motion will be able to expand the reach of its smartphones in the Chinese market courtesy of the local expertise and nationwide distribution network Digital China has. The BlackBerry solution, as many of you might already know, is already available in the country.

Guo Wei, chairman and CEO, Digital China, commented the following on the newly announced partnership: “As the leading IT service provider and distributor in China, Digital China has always believed in advanced and cutting-edge products that deliver value to Chinese customers. Through this collaboration, RIM will leverage Digital China’s proven professional services and nationwide coverage to reach more customers and to increase the visibility of the BlackBerry solution across the country.”

The BlackBerry solution from Research In Motion, is a well-known fact, comes as a world-class mobile communications platform that includes some of the most popular smartphones on the market today, as well as a wide range of software and services for them. The solution is aimed both at consumers and at professionals, and it offers fast access to email, messaging, phone, organizer, Internet and multimedia applications, not to mention the great amount of applications available for the BlackBerry platform.

Jim Balsillie, co-CEO, Research In Motion, said, “We are delighted to reach a distribution agreement with Digital China. Business partnerships are an important aspect of RIM’s strategy and Digital China’s extensive knowledge and market presence will further expand the opportunity for RIM in China.” Research In Motion also revealed a partnership with China Mobile for supporting the carrier's specific TD-SCDMA and TD-LTE technologies.
