Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion has just announced officially the launch of its first device to pack a sliding form factor, and wireless carriers in the country already went official with plans to add the device on its airwaves. Among these operators, we can count Rogers and Bell, both of which confirmed future plans for the new mobile phone, one for the next few weeks, while the other for this fall.

According to a recent post on Rogers' red board, the new BlackBerry Torch 9800, one of the most anticipated devices from RIM, should arrive on its airwaves within the following weeks. “We’re excited to tell you we will carry this stylish smartphone as part of our BlackBerry and Social View lineup in the coming weeks. The BlackBerry Torch 9800 comes with BlackBerry 6, the latest operating system for BlackBerry smartphones, plus a 3.2” touchscreen and a full QWERTY slide-out keyboard,” the carrier notes.

The new mobile phone includes a nice range of appealing features, such as a 5-megapixel photo snapper with auto-focus, flash and video recording capabilities, built-in GPS and Wi-Fi, a great deal of storage space via 4GB of internal memory and microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space, in addition to the new BlackBerry 6 operating system, which includes new multimedia features, a new interface, and an improved web browser for a better navigation experience.

While Rogers announced the upcoming arrival of RIM's slider via its blog, Bell only confirmed plans to make the new device available for purchase for its customers. It seems that the carrier would have the new BlackBerry Torch on sale later during the fall, with no specific details on the matter unveiled. Moreover, no info on the price tag the device would sport on either of the carriers emerged for the time being.

Here's what Bell said on the new phone, according to a recent article on MobileSyrup: “The new BlackBerry Torch smartphone with BlackBerry 6 will be coming this fall to Bell Mobility. And because apps work best on the best network, Bell clients will enjoy using the BlackBerry 9800 Torch to access impressive mobile services from like TV, radio, Remote PVR, Visual Voicemail, GPS Navigator and more. We will keep you posted with more details as we get closer to availability.”
