RELM Wireless Corporation, a manufacturer and vendor of high-specification two-way communications equipment for public safety professionals and government agencies, and for radios used in commercial and industrial applications, has just launched a new high-specification, enhanced APCO Project 25 digital portable radio for field command and coordination functions - the BK Radio DPH-CMD, which is designed to fulfill the requirements of public safety and disaster response professionals.

More precisely, the DPH-CMD is capable of field communications using 500 channels, with 25 user groups of 20 channels per group and meets rigid MIL-STD 810 C/D/E military specifications. "This latest addition to RELM's APCO Project 25 offerings expands and strengthens our digital radio product line," said RELM President and CEO David Storey. "Derived from the widely popular analog GPH-CMD, the P25 digital product was engineered to meet the specific requirements of a long-time RELM customer. We believe the product's features and functionality also appeal to a broad range of other customers. Responding to customer needs and problems leads to smarter solutions we can then share with all our customers. Like all our professional-grade BK Radio products, the DPH-CMD digital portable radio offers distinct advantages, including superior audio clarity, ease of use and programming, longer battery life, and lower cost than comparable competitive products."

APCO Project 25 (P25) is a result of recent communications failures during the Oklahoma City bombings, 9/11 attacks and most recently Hurricane Katrina. On the other hand, RELM was one of the first manufacturers to develop a P25-compliant technology which requires interoperability among compatible equipment regardless of the manufacturer. The project was established by the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials and approved by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

RELM Wireless Corporation has previously developed innovative devices such as low-cost digital two-way radios compliant with APCO Project 25 technical specifications.
