Crazier things have been known to happen: singer R. Kelly is saying in his new book that the reason he filed for divorce in 2009 was because he'd seen “The Notebook” and realized he did not share the same kind of connection with his wife as the protagonists.

“The Notebook” (in case there still are people who have not heard of it) is a 2004 film starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams, considered one of the most romantic ever.

In his new book, “Soulacoaster,” R. Kelly claims he only made the decision to divorce his wife and former backup dancer Andrea Kelly after seeing the film, TMZ reports.

It was this particular movie that made him realize that he and Andrea would not live happily ever after.

“As the film credits started to roll, I couldn't move. I burst into tears. People walking past me patted me on the back, trying to console me. 'The Notebook' was beautiful, and I was crying because its hero and heroine had died together,” Kelly writes in his book.

“But I was also crying because I remembered a Valentine's Day – when a helicopter dropped a rainfall of roses – that had come and gone... My marriage had died. And there was nothing I could do to bring it back,” he further says.

In a statement to the same media outlet, Andrea insists that either R. Kelly is lying or he's dramatizing to get sympathy from the public.

The bottom line is: “The Notebook” did not end their marriage.

“[The movie] came out in 2004 and we saw it together. Our divorce wasn’t finalized until 2009 so it’s impossible that the movie could have been the reason for our relationship ending,” Andrea says in a brief statement.

“We had been separated for 6 years at that point! The movie definitely did not end our relationship!” the singer's ex wife adds.
