Extends battery life by six to ten hours

Accessory maker QuickerTek has introduced an external battery for users of the Apple MacBook Air, with the promise to extend computing time to as much as 16 hours. Interested parties will need one modified 45W MagSafe power adapter, which costs an additional $100 USD, or they can send theirs in to have it modified for $25 USD. The battery costs US$350 on its own.

On its website, QuickerTek explains that, “The MacBook Air External Battery powers and charges the internal battery while you use the computer,” just in case you didn't figure that one out on your own. On a more technical note, QuickerTek reveals that users get 12 to 16 total hours of battery life, meaning the battery life on their MBA will be extended by six to ten hours.

“You know the QuickerTek External Battery is working because the battery charge percentage in the menu bar stays at 100% for hours, before the power of internal battery is touched,” the battery maker states, adding that, “While the stock Apple MacBook Air recharges in four hours using the AC wall adapter, the QuickerTek External Battery Charger recharges in only three hours. It's styled to blend in perfectly with all of your other cool Apple equipment. The MacBook Air External Battery Charger is lightweight, good looking and seriously powerful,” QuickerTek concludes.

Product details are listed as such:

Physical: 7 x 3.5 x 1 inches; Battery: Li-ion Polymer; Requires QuickerTek-modified MagSafe power adapter; LED charging status indicator; Weight: 1.2 lbs.

Since most users get under five hours of battery life on their MBA when running several apps at a time, using wireless and a bright screen, QuickerTek's solution sounds very attractive (except for the price, that is).
