An interesting take on the 4X space-based genre

Galactic Inheritors managed to capture my attention around the 60-turn mark, when my space faring empire was becoming well-established and I was starting to meet alien races, some of which were beginning to encroach into my territory.

The development team is made up of veterans from Paradox Interactive, but the game feels much closer to the likes of Galactic Civilization or even the very old Star Trek turn-based strategy title, with a few unique twists.

At the beginning, the experience is very traditional, with five races (each with an interesting back story) to choose from and an initial exploration stage in which players have a limited number of exploration ships to discover the star systems around them and decide which ones to settle.

Each one of those occupied can be developed in three categories, and there are resources to explore as players also boost their tech and try to decide how to expand their fledgling empire.

Galactic Inheritors puts the Military-Industrial Complex front and center

The military-industrial complex might sound a little ominous to most gamers, but Galactic Inheritors uses it to refer to the companies that can deliver the firepower required to keep enemies at bay or to expand to new solar systems.

Gamers can choose from three potential developers and each gains experience as they deliver military ships, which in turn transforms into points that can open up upgrades for the ships.

The idea is interesting, but so far combat has been limited in my Galactic Inheritors campaigns, mostly because the aliens tend to be a little too pacific in their approach and I tend to fear their defensive assets.

The title also introduces a twist when it comes to diplomatic relations, with two factions only able to declare war once they have enough differences, which are clearly shown in the appropriate screen.

The title is interesting so far, although tough choices are limited and conflict seems a little underdeveloped at the moment, and I look forward to seeing how the core mechanics are expanded by the team at Crispon.

Gamers who take a look at the video attached to this Quick Look should be aware that this is an early version of the title and that many things will be changed before the final product is delivered to buyers.

The developers already have a clear plan for the coming months and they intend to use both their experience and feedback coming from the players who get the Early Access version to improve the Galactic Inheritors title.
