Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless is set to bring to the spotlight at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas a series of new devices, some of which should offer support for its new LTE (Long Term Evolution) network, many with Qualcomm hardware inside, it seems. Some of the connectivity devices that Big Red plans on making official with LTE on board should pack inside Qualcomm's Snapdragon MSM8655 processor as well as Qualcomm's MDM9600 LTE modem chipset, the carrier announced.

These devices, along with others more, should take full advantage of the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Mobile Broadband network, fired up in early December in a number of 38 markets around the United States.

The Snapdragon MSM8655 system-on-chip from Qualcomm includes the company's enhanced CPU that runs at 1.2 GHz, along with the latest Adreno GPU, and with a low-power architecture.

Qualcomm's MDM9600 chipset is said to be Gobi-enabled, while offering support for both 3G and 4G network technologies, the chip maker announced.

According to the company, the new LTE modem chipset could provide users with connectivity almost anywhere, offering support for the fast speeds on the new network, as well as full compatibility with the older EV-DO Rev. A/Rev. B network.

“Our MDM9600 chipset supports Verizon Wireless' 4G LTE network, and our easy-to-use software API helps streamline integration efforts, spur application development among third-party developers and deliver greater flexibility to device manufacturers,” Steve Mollenkopf, executive vice president and group president of Qualcomm, said.

“This level of software and hardware integration has already yielded several connectivity solutions for Verizon Wireless' new LTE Mobile Broadband network, with more devices to come.”

“As carriers around the globe attempt to bring devices to market that both seamlessly bridge the transition from 3G to 4G networks and provide the highest levels of CPU and GPU performance, we believe Qualcomm will continue to be a key chipset and modem partner moving forward,” Cristiano Amon, senior vice president of product management at Qualcomm, added.
