Activision won't comment

Retailers are saying that Quake Wars is set to launch for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 on May 30. Considering the time that passed since the PC release and the talk about new features from Activision, the date seems about right to us.

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is a multiplayer, team-based, objective-driven first-person shooter with a very deep connection to all things Quake. The two sides are the humans, who sport fairly conventional modern-day weapons, and biomechanical and very alien Strogg, who wield more sci-fi weaponry. Each race must either complete a set of objectives or prevent their completion, depending on their role on the specific map. The maps are varied and try to tell parts of the story of how the humans of the Earth Defense Forces have repulsed the Strogg assault on the home planet of humanity.

Each race also has access to five character classes to choose from apiece. A player can change his class every time he respawns, which is a plus given the fact that different objectives on the map require different classes to be completed. The game also features both aerial and ground-based vehicles and it allows players to deploy items like turrets to assist in the battle.

The console port of the game is trying to change some of the things that have drawn critique in the PC version. The interface is more streamlined and all the info is put in its rightful place. You can see at a glance where the next objective is and what class you need to be in order to complete that objective.

The game will track the standard suite of persistent statistics on Xbox Live, but also both the 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game will have 56 rankings for players to advance through and will also offer one incredibly elaborate and detailed set of statistics, which is based on a player database that's set to track more than 1,000 variables related to gameplay.
