By 2007, Advanced Micro Devices will offer quad-core (4 cores on one processor) solutions, company officials announced during a conference that took place in New York at the end of last week.

AMD stated that by switching from dual-core processors to quad-core solutions, the company will be able to achieve one of the most advanced chips.

Advanced Micro Devices goes even further and says that there is a project, for now only on the drawing board, aimed at developing a 16 core processor.

AMD has also a few surprises for the mobile system market, among which a rechargeable battery able to power a notebook for 7 hours; this solution should also be available by 2007. Until then, the company will launch some modest versions with lifespans of 4, 5 and respectively 6 hours.
