Newegg ready to release Quad FX into the wild

You probably remember the launch of AMD's 4x4 platform. If you do, then you also remember 2 things: the fact that it failed to deliver the expected performance leap and the fact that it's pretty expensive especially for such a heat making machine. Remember that the FX platform consumes a huge amount of power and most of it has to be dissipated as heat. Motive for which the PCs that integrate this platform need to use modified cooling in order to keep the CPUs at a safe level.

If all this talking didn't convince you to wait a little before buying AMD's latest platform, I suggest you prepare your wallet because a system that uses a dedicated motherboard and a pair of Quad FX CPUs will set you back quite a lot. But there's also good news in all that madness. It seems that Newegg is ready to announce the availability of Asus Quad FX motherboard and the dedicated CPUs.

So, in case you're planning to buy the platform, now you can find it in stores. The problem is that you can choose just one motherboard since only Asus is currently producing 1207-pin LGA motherboards. The product is branded as Asus L1N64-SLI. It comes with 7.1 HD sound, S-ATA Raid, USB 2.0, Dual PCI-E MB and will take any SLI cards and combinations. The board should end up being priced at $349 but is likely to drop very soon to the suggested $299 while the Quad FX CPUs will costs $999 for two FX74, $799 for two FX72 and $599 for the slowest FX70s. Not a bad deal, huh?

Just remember to keep an eye on your power bill since it is likely to increase a lot. And regarding the Quad FXes, you might want to stay online to see the exact moment the products come out because you're probably waiting in a big line without even knowing it. At the moment Newegg doesn't list the products as available but the first motherboards have already arrived. Further updates will follow.
