Nowadays mobile computing solutions are becoming very powerful indeed and some are even taking the performance crown from mainstream desktop systems, like the DreamBook Power D90 SLI notebook made by Pioneer that is said to have jumped over the 10,000 mark in the 3Dmark06 benchmarking suite.

Of course, the new Pioneer notebooks are based on some very impressive hardware components that allow it to reach such high computing performance, but all that power comes at the cost of portability as the entire system tips the scales at 5.4 kilograms, while coming with a very high price tag that will make most computer users seek other, more affordable solutions.

On the technical side, the Pioneer DreamBook Power D90 SLI notebook comes equipped with an Intel made Core 2 Quad Q7600 central processing unit that uses the quad core technology, while the graphics department is represented by a setup of the dual graphics cards. Two Nvidia GeForce Go 7950 GTX video cards laid up in a SLI setup and each coming with 512MB of GDDR3 video memory are powering a 17-inch widescreen LCD display that is capable of natively supporting a 1920 by 1200 resolution.

To provide a high bandwidth and a constant flow of data for the Intel processing unit, Pioneer uses 4GB of DDR2 random access memory that are packed in two 2GB, each module running at 667MHz. As the typical customer interested to purchase the Pioneer DreamBook Power D90 SLI notebook will also look for huge storage capabilities, no less than four 200GB 7200rpm Serial ATA II hard disk drives are provided and they are of course arrayed in a RAID configuration.

On the multimedia side, this monster notebook from Pioneer comes with a built in Digital TV tuner, so users may relax and watch or record their favorite TV shows and episodes. There is no available information about the battery lifetime, but considering that the notebook comes with power hungry processing units, as well as two 7950 GTX graphics cards and four 7200rpm hard disk drives, I'm willing to bet that users will use it more like a desktop replacement than as a typical, mobile computer system. A hardware related site also reports that the total price of the Pioneer DreamBook Power D90 SLI notebook is $7,501 which may very well be one of the highest price tags associated with a single, personal computer system.
