QNAP Systems has just announced the introduction of a new Intel Atom-based Network Attached Storage (NAS) device, coming to provide business users with an alternative to a low-power consumption, low-noise and high-capacity storage solution. According to QNAP, its latest SS-839 Turbo NAS is the world's smallest 8-bay, Intel Atom NAS with support for 2.5-inch HDDs or SSDs. The solution can easily be attached to any network and can deliver an alternative to other NAS devices that are built to support larger 3.5-inch drives.

“The SS-839 Pro is the 8-bay variation of QNAP's previously announced SS-439 Pro Turbo NAS. It is also the smallest 8-bay NAS in the current market with up to 4TB storage capacity. The NAS features low operation noise and low power consumption. When running 8 hard drives, the SS-839 Pro consumes almost 60% less electricity than a general 8-bay, 3.5-inch SATA NAS. It is definitely an ideal storage solution that largely reduces the electricity expenses of the business users,” Celia Lee, product manager from QNAP, says.

Designed for business users, the new SS-439 Pro Turbo NAS is equipped with a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, combined with 2GB of DDR2 memory, a 128MB DOM (disk on module), two Gigabit Ethernet ports, five USB 2.0 ports, two eSATA ports and a mono-LCD display with backlight and configuration buttons. Each of the eight drive bays has been featured with an indicator light, while the NAS also boasts a K-lock security slot for theft prevention.

Upgrading the SS-839 Pro Turbo NAS is easy, with the NAS offering support for up to 4TB of storage space. Additional features include the support added for a network, FTP and web server with built-in phpMyAdmin. Unfortunately, QNAP hasn't yet announced the details regarding the pricing and availability of the new NAS.
