Taiwanese manufacturer QNAP has just introduced its NVR-1012 home and office surveillance system, a completely automated television system. The NVR-1012 network surveillance kit comes with two IP cameras, 1 TB of hard-disk drive storage, as well as two-way communication.

The system flawlessly integrates with the existing home network, thanks to the Linux-based NVR-1012 server. The kit can be set up even by the less tech-savvy users, thanks to its simple and intuitive, browser-based administration interface. The control panel handles all the system configuration and recording/monitoring functions of the NVR, which eliminates the need of installing additional software applications.

The system can record the security feeds as either MPEG4 or Motion JPEG on up to four simultaneous channels. The recorded data can be stored on the 1 TB hard-disk drive that comes pre-installed in the NVR-1012 server. Should customers require more storage space, they can add up external storage sources via a built-in eSATA interface.

The two IP cameras can take shots at 30 frames per second, and offer a plethora of additional functions, such as recording time stamp, 3GPP streaming, as well as an infrared night view feature.

"The NVR-1012 kit is an ideal solution to provide day & night protection to your home and office," said QNAP senior product manager Peace Kuo in a statement. "The unique infrared design on the camera included in the kit is enabled automatically during the night time to ensure continuous recording and monitoring. We also provided motion detection feature that, if a moving object is detected, direct recording is triggered, and an alert email is sent to notify the users."

The security and surveillance kit also offers two-way audio, that makes it perfectly suitable for replacing the intercom systems. The security server is extremely energy-efficient, and is rated at 18 watts of drawn energy while operating at peak capacity. There is no word on pricing or availability as of the moment of writing.
