PwnageTool 4.1 is now available for free download for anyone having a Mac and the urge to gain access to unapproved third party applications, themes, ringtones, and other types of enhancements for their iOS device.

An update on the iPhone Dev Team Blog reads:

“We’re pleased to release PwnageTool 4.1 for Mac OS X (free of charge, blog ads, and donation requests — as always!).  Today’s big new addition to the jailbreak family is AppleTV 2G, which was first shown jailbroken in its release week!”

The post continues with a big warning for those looking to unlock their iPhone, in addition to jailbreaking the handset.

The Dev Team urges PwnageTool users to carefully select their custom IPSW file as they attempt to restore their phone’s firmware using iTunes.

“ULTRASN0W UNLOCKERS BEWARE!! ULTRASN0W UNLOCKERS BEWARE!! The biggest mistake you can make (and it is a big one!) is lettings iTunes restore to the official IPSW — you’ll lose the unlock and won’t be able to go back!,” the Team writes.

“You must use Option-Restore, not just the Restore button by itself,” the Team instructs. “Then navigate to your custom IPSW — not to the stock one!”

According to the hackers, if you accidentally start the restore process to the official (stock) IPSW, you can still save your unlock by unplugging the phone before the restore gets to the point where it says “Updating Firmware”.

The infamous team of hackers acknowledges that the PwnageTool 4.1 untethered jailbreak is possible “through a combination of the recently released geohot limera1n exploit, @comex’s recently released pf kernel exploit, and our original pwnage2 exploit.”

Devices supported under iOS 4.1 are AppleTV 2G, iPod touch 4G, iPod touch 3G, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 3G. iPad, which currently run firmware 3.2.2 or lower, are also jailbreakable via PwnageTool 4.1, the Team said.

Softpedia doesn't encourage jailbreaking / unlocking the iPhone / iPod touch / iPad / Apple TV, or any other device.

This article has a purely informational purpose and doesn't, in any way, suggest that you should hack your Apple device.

Using hacks may render your device unusable, or may reduce the quality of your experience employing the respective device.

If you choose to download and install jailbreak tools, you will do so at your own risk. Unlocking / jailbreaking your iPhone / iPod touch / iPad / Apple TV may violate your warranty or the EULA with Apple and / or your cellular-service provider.
