PopCap, the well known developer of casual games that also dabbled in the business of conducting surveys that show how good its own releases are for you, has just  launched the sequel to Peggle, one of the most addictive games of 2007. The new title is called Peggle Nights and you can get it from the developer’s website for now, with deals being prepared for other venues, like Yahoo and Steam, to also distribute the game after about a month of PopCap exclusivity.

As the name implies, Peggle Nights is set in a sequence of stages that are dream themed. The developers brag about the game offering 60 Adventure mode levels, 60 Challenge mode levels, new Peggle Master power ups and the original Peggle Masters to play as.

The features of Peggle Night also include some new Achievements and a playable character, which has a Shockwave effect based around electricity. PopCap has also modified the game so that more levels and characters can be added via planned Level Packs.

The idea of the game is to shoot a ball out of a gun at some colored pegs with the aim of clearing the screen of them. It's all influenced by the mysterious force of gravity and ricochets are very, very important. You have multiple balls you can use and you can perform certain combos with your ball in order to rack up more points.

The original game has got more than 20 million downloads since it was released in February 2007. Bejeweled, the champion of casual games, has been downloaded around 25 million times, by comparison, so with this most recent release, the Peggle series is probably poised to dethrone it in a couple of months. An Xbox Live Arcade of the original game is set to debut in the near future.
