Pro Softnet Corporation has announced support for Time Machine backups in its IDrive Macintosh client version 1.4.2.

IDrive automatically keeps the latest Time Machine data protected for a redundant backup, once the Time Machine folder is selected for backup to the IDrive online account.

Individual files/folders, or the entire Time Machine backup can be restored back to the Mac if the local Time Machine backup becomes lost or corrupted.

A new Rapid Serve program offered by IDrive allows for large restores via an IDrive Portable hard drive - a high performance 320GB portable USB hard drive sold by the makers of the software.

Regarded as a premium online backup service, IDrive offers reliable, secure online backup for consumers and businesses with various service plans that makes the service affordable to all individuals.

Online backup accounts range from 5GB of storage absolutely free of charge to unlimited storage plans for $49.95.

Pro Softnet has observed that consumers and businesses are now more eager to push their backups to the cloud.

The company will undoubtedly face serious competition from Apple later this year when a new version of the MobileMe service is expected to emerge from Cupertino packing various high-end Internet services, including a reliable backup solution.

"Many Mac owners use Time Machine to keep their important files protected," said Raghu Kulkarni, CEO for Pro Softnet Corporation.

"Now IDrive can keep Time Machine backups doubly secure by keeping a copy in the online storage account, which is a prudent strategy in the event a disaster wipes out the Mac & the hard drive with the local backup.”

“The new Rapid Serve program gets restores done quickly by shipping a hard drive to the user instead of waiting on the Internet," Kulkarni said.

IDrive 1.4.2 also now lets users restore data from Mac OS X to Windows with ease, as well as backup data from multiple computers to a single account.
