A JVM minimalistic Linux distribution

Puppy Linux is an evolutionary operating system, based onGNU Linux. It is a minimalist, JVM, Fvwm95 and IceWM based window managers, with a size of only 60 MB.

Puppy Linux's mission statement :

■ Puppy will easily install to USB, Zip or hard drive media. ■ Booting from CD, Puppy will load totally into RAM so that the CD drive is then free for other purposes. ■ Booting from CD, Puppy can save everything back to the CD, no need for a hard drive. ■ Booting from USB, Puppy will greatly minimize writes, to extend the life of Flash devices indefinitely. ■ Puppy will be extremely friendly for Linux newbies. ■ Puppy will boot up and run extraordinarily fast. ■ Puppy will have all the applications needed for daily use. ■ Puppy will just work, no hassles. ■ Puppy will breathe new life into old PCs

Not only that Puppy Linux can be installed anywhere you want, started from your hard drive, USB flash drive, zip disk, and also can be installed on the network or within an emulator, but Puppy Linux is also a Live CD, that loads in the RAM, and can be very fast and very easily used for any needs that you have.

Barry Kauler, Puppy Linux's creator, has named this distribution after his real dog, which name was Puppy.
