Publisher Take-Two is apparently very pleased with Evolve's sales performance so far, in spite of industry analysts' pessimistic predictions.

Take-Two President Karl Slatoff praised Turtle Rock Studios' asymmetrical multiplayer shooter this week, during the Piper Jaffray Technology, Media, and Telecommunications Conference, stating his satisfaction regarding the title's sales, but not providing any hard numbers for it.

Evolve attempts to put a unique twist to the team-based shooter genre, by pitting a team of four hunters against a lumbering beast, controlled by a fifth gamer.

The hunters can choose from several different characters in the Assault, Support, Trapper and Medic classes, and then have to work together and use each of the characters' unique abilities in order to track, locate and then take out the fearsome beast.

Players who control the monster have to roam the map, killing off and feeding on the wildlife, in order to evolve and gain increased stats and better abilities, and then face off the team of hunters, attempting to single out and take them out one by one.

Evolve offers a unique experience

"When we first picked up Evolve... our instincts told us we had something really special. And as the game evolved - I guess the pun is sort of intended - but I think our instincts have proven out right. We're very pleased. We've had an incredibly successful commercial launch with Evolve," Slatoff was quoted by Games Industry.

The executive explained that the game performed especially strong when it came to digital sales and Season Pass attach rate, and revealed that Evolve was a fantastic experience for both the development team and the publisher, and that everyone was very pleased with it.

However, Cowen & Company analyst Doug Creutz expressed some conservative sales projections for the 4v1 multiplayer video game, revealing that the firm estimated around 300k units sold at retail in the United States, the primary games market, during Evolve's launch month.

Furthermore, Creutz projected a total of around 1.5 million sales during the title's first year, in both digital and physical, according to Gamespot.

Evolve was released in mid-February this year, and is currently available for PC and the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 computer entertainment systems from Microsoft and Sony, respectively.
