In the United Kingdom

The videogame chart in the United Kingdom might just have found its long term king, as The Sims 3 from Electronic Arts has managed to hold on to the top spot in the face of quite a strong challenge from Activision's Prototype.

Of course, The Sims 3 has a wider appeal than Prototype. After all, the Sims series has sold more than 100 million games over the course of its existence, while Prototype looks a bit dated at the moment even if the action that it offers is pretty hectic and engaging.

It remains to be seen whether other challengers will knock The Sims 3 from its top position or whether the game will remain up there for many weeks as players line up to get the new social simulation title.

Red Faction: Guerilla, the open world game set on Mars released by THQ, has slid down one place to reach third position, while Wii Fit, the fitness game from Nintendo, has managed to go up one position to number four. The loser is UFC 2009: Undisputed, also released by THQ, that now sits at number five, sliding two places, as did EA Sports Active, which now sits in the sixth position.

Call of Duty: World at War, the World War II shooter created by Treyarch and distributed by Activision, managed to re-enter the top ten after one week in the wilderness, coming in at number seven, while Pokemon Platinum is sliding down the top ten, sitting now at number eight. inFamous, from Sony, lost the super hero game and rests at number nine, while FIFA 09 also managed to shot up to get in the top ten.

Terminator: Salvation, Guitar Hero: Metallica and Virtua Tennis 2009 have all slid out of the top ten and have slim chances of getting back up, given the release schedule of the coming months.
