HP and Compaq are looking at a greater collaboration with the processor manufacturer and vendor AMD as the two merged companies recently released a number of desktop computer systems based on AMD CPUs and now they are announcing the launch of two brand new laptop lines powered by the same type of central processing units. The new Pavillion and Presario laptops are all powered by CPUs made by Advanced Micro Devices, including top of the line Turion dual core processors as well as lower cost and of course lower performance Semprons.

The new laptop lines released by the two manufacturers include the HP Pavilion dv9500z and dv6500z and the Compaq Presario v6500z machines which are intended as consumer notebooks. All models are equipped with Nvidia based integrated graphics solutions like the baseline NVIDIA GeForce Go 7150M, while the higher end and more performance oriented dv9500z an dv6500z laptops have the option of a discrete NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS graphics card. The new Pavillion lineup is a complete reworked series of machines as even the casing finish Zen garden style was replaced with the Radiance design which is better looking, while the Compaq notebook line now sports the Trace design pattern.

Technical specifications for the brand new laptops vary so slightly, as most of them are using the AMD Turion dual core mobile processors which integrate 64bits technology. The Turions used are coming with clock speeds between 1.7GHz and 1.9GHz, while the middle end AMD Athlon dual cores mobile CPUs are using clock speeds of 1.7 and 1.8GHz. The lower end AMD Semprons used on the Compaq Presario V6500Z series of laptops are rated at 3600+ and they are clocked at 2GHz while having a 256KB second cache level memory. The other AMD processors used in these laptop series are using higher amounts of second level cache memories, like 512KB for the AMD Athlon and 2 X 512KB for the Turion. All HP and Compaq laptop series are coming with one GB of DDR2 system memory and can be upgraded to a maximum of 4GB packed in two DIMMs. On the storage department things are looking good as all laptops feature Serial ATA hard disk drives with capacities between 80 and 200GB and rotational speeds between 4200 and 5400rpm.

On the operating system side, both the HP and the Compaq laptops are coming with Microsoft Windows Vista preinstalled, users being able to opt between Vista Home Premium, Vista Business and Vista Ultimate in both 32bit and 64bit versions.
