A very prominent oncologist from Houston, Dr. Ana Maria Gonzales-Angulo, has being charged with aggravated assault after she reportedly served her colleague and lover, Dr. George Blumenschein, two cups of coffee laced with an antifreeze toxin.

The incident occurred in January, at her place, when he asked her for a cup of black coffee, as the CNN video report will confirm.

She brought him one but he complained it was too sweet. In response, she claimed she had put artificial sweetener Splenda in it, but she agreed to make him another one, if he just finished that one up.

Prosecutors say the sweet taste of the coffee wasn’t from Splenda but from ethylene glycol, a toxin found in antifreeze and in the M.D. Anderson laboratories, where Dr. Gonzalez-Angulo worked and, consequently, would have had access to it.

They can’t offer a motive for her actions.

Hours after the two cups of poisoned coffee, Blumenschein started feeling poorly. Even later, he was rushed to the ER with kidney failure and various other complications.

An attorney for Dr. Gonzales-Angulo insists she’s innocent of all accusations.
