Producers Guild Awards 2014 brings a tie for the first time ever, between “Gravity” and “12 Years a Slave”

After a great night at the Actors Guild Awards, when all the stars came out to celebrate the accomplishments of their peers in the previous year, a more technical gala took place, this time celebrating the producers who made it possible for some of the most beautiful films and TV productions ever to come out in 2013.

In other words, this was the place to be to give thanks to the men and women who made it possible for all the amazing thespians we’re now talking about to star in the best movies of 2013.

As a first, this year’s event included a tie in the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures category, with “Gravity” and “12 Years a Slave” both scooping up the award.

“Gravity,” starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as two astronauts stranded in space, was directed by Alfonso Cuaron, who is also listed as one of the producers, together with David Heyman.

“12 Years a Slave,” based on a true story, was directed by Steve McQueen, who is also a producer. The other winners include Brad Pitt, Anthony Katagas, Jeremy Kleiner, and Dede Gardner.
