No doubt, 3D monitors are going to sell in droves, so to speak, on the enthusiast front, now that companies like CyberPower and iBuyPower have made their moves. Still, even though NVIDIA may have just incited a veritable 3D revolution with its release of support for 3D Vision surround, the display market itself still seems to be progressing at, more or less, the same pace. iiyama, for one, decided not to get too thick into the 3D game just yet, instead settling for unleashing its latest widescreen LCD, dubbed ProLite E2271HDS-B.

Like all monitor makers, the company did its best to optimize all aspects of tis latest creation, not just in terms of image quality and performance, but also design. As such, the so-called ProLite E2271HDS-B turned out to be a 21.5-inch widescreen liquid crystal display (LCD) with a thickness of just 18.5mm and a glossy black finish.

The ProLite E2271HDS-B, in order to stay competitive with all other display solutions launched over the past half a year, has a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and an ambient contrast ratio (ACR) or 5,000,000:1. This ACR corresponds to a static contrast ratio of 1,000:1.

The screen also has a brightness of 250 cd/m2 and a response time of 5ms. Finally, a pair of 1W speakers are present and connectivity to PCs is assured by D-Sub, DVI and HDMI 1.3 inputs.

It should probably be noted that iiyama's product is outfitted with a 3-way ECO mode that can reduce power consumption by up to 30%. All in all, power draw during normal operation is of 21W, which is not so bad considering the thinness benefit that is also present. Unfortunately, customers will have to wait a while before getting a chance to purchase this monitor, since it will only ship sometime in July, for roughly $257.
