Konami has announced that it has put out both an update, designated 1.03, and a free piece of downloadable content for its football simulator, Pro Evolution Soccer 2010. They are both available on the PlayStation 3 from Sony, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the PC.

The 1.03 update for Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 is set to introduce new settings designed to allow more flexibility related to formations and to the way players use their tactics. There is now a fresh save function that allows the player to save all their modifications made to formations and tactics and then load them with only one click, which speeds up the game quite a lot.

There are also some new icons introduced to show the quality of the connection to other players in the online component. There are three colors to take into account and Konami advises gamers to only play with those who are at the Green status, as other connections might drop in the middle of the game or slow down the experience considerably.

The match making code for those who play on the PC on machines with different processors has also been significantly improved. The free DLC package that accompanies the patch contains ten new models for player boots and three new models for the balls, some of them designed for increased visibility.

Recently, Konami acknowledged that PES 2010 lacked a bit of quality when compared to FIFA 10 from rival EA Sports and launched a comprehensive online survey allowing all the players interested in the series to offer an opinion on how the installment of the series for 2011 would look like. The questions in the survey specifically ask for direct comparisons between the two rival franchises and it seems that next year will be quite a heated one for football simulators.
