Toyota wants to boost its sale numbers by introducing its third eco-friendly vehicle, the fuel-efficient Prius C, also known as Toyota Aqua in Japan.
After launching its predecessors, Prius Plug-In, Prius V, the automaker has noticed that fuel-efficiency delivered in an affordable, great looking package is a solid bet.
Therefore, the new Prius C costs only $21,000 (€16,176) and is up to 10% more fuel-efficient than the standard Prius.
Even though it is far less appealing than the prototype showcased during the last Detroit auto show, manufacturers have managed to avoid the “fish face” characteristic for all the Prius family.
Toyota is eager to prove that its new baby can come along with the best city fuel economy recorded by non-plug-in hybrids available on the market so far and wants to obtain more than 50-mpg city fuel mileage on the EPA cycle.
60,000 pre-orders have been recorded so far for the Prius C, exceeding Toyota's greatest expectations. The next target is the American market, which will welcome the new Prius C later this year.
