It still makes things from plastic, but at least it traded wood for something stronger

Previously, whenever we spoke of metal 3D printers, we meant that the 3D printer makes things out of metal, but that's not the case with the Printrbot Brook Drumm. Instead, the printer is made of metal.

The newcomer, bearing the name of Printrbot Simple, is based on another Printrbot 3D printer, one that was made of wood, or rather plywood.

Using metal has not only made the printer better-looking, but it also provides a higher stability and noise dampening.

Sure, the printer ended up a bit larger than the predecessor, but that also means that the build area has increased as well.

Where before it used to be of 4 x 4 x 4 inches / 102 x 102 x 102 mm, it is now of 6 x 6 x 6 inches / 152 x 152 x 152 mm.

Also, the Z axis rod has increased from 8 mm to 12 mm, or from 0.31 inches to 0.47 inches.

The Printrbot Simple will be launched this spring for $399 / €399 to $699 / €699, while the wooden printer continues to ship as a kit for $299 / €299.
