Hollywood has been a big influence on the gaming industry for quite some time now, but only in recent years has this trend become more and more apparent. This is largely due to the big number of game-based movies that have been popping up lately, all of which attaining a fair amount of success, even though some of them didn't do the gaming industry any justice.

One of the most interesting titles to appear in the near future is the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time project, which will be basing its action on the game with the same name. The main character will be played by Jake Gyllenhaal, who has already appeared in a number of spy shots without his shirt off, while the princess Tamina will be played by Gemma Arterton.

As a lot of gamers know, the prince, named Dastan, and the princess team up to protect an ancient dagger that can release the Sands of Time and, like the name implies, will allow its possessor to reverse time and thus control the whole world.

Courtesy of Empire, we are now treated with the first two theatrical posters of the movie, which will be launched in May next year. They are quite nice and at least score a mark for not trying to replicate some of the covers from the game series or any intricate and acrobatic fighting sequences.

Gyllenhaal also revealed recently that he had done a lot of his stunts, which took some time getting used to. “I'm tired of taking myself so seriously,” the actor said. “It's nice when a stuntman turns to you and is like, 'Actors don't normally do this.'”

Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Mike Newell, the movie is slated for release on May 28, 2010, and promises to really take game-based movies up to a whole new level. Don't forget though that almost all such projects promise the same thing, so all we can do is wait until it reaches cinemas and only then pass the verdict.
